UFCH Support Charity Mission of Han Hong Foundation in Jilin
From August 10th to August 22nd, 2024, United Family Foundation for China’s Health (UFCH) was invited by Beijing Han Hong Love Charity Foundation (Han Hong Foundation) to participate in the charity medical mission in Jilin. In collaboration with United Family Healthcare (UFH), UFCH assembled a dedicated team of 24 experienced medical professionals and volunteers. Meticulous planning went into every detail of the mission, from assigning volunteer roles to organizing materials, ensuring the success of the initiative.
HPV Screening and Treatment
The UFH volunteers traveled with the charity team to 10 counties in 7 cities and states in Jilin Province to provide free medical care and HPV screening and treatment for local people. The HPV screening team provided cervical cancer screening and on-site colposcopy treatment to 1,951 eligible women. UFCH will continue to follow up on test results, offer medical consultations, and support further treatments where needed.

The fast, efficient, and accurate screening process greatly reduced the time patients needed to wait for follow-up exams. Instead of waiting days or even a week for their results, patients were able to receive their examination outcomes the same day and proceed with further tests immediately. This timely approach significantly lowered the risk of high-risk HPV cases progressing into cervical cancer. In addition, the widespread education on prevention served as the first line of defense for the local women’s health. Medical volunteers passionately shared detailed information on cervical cancer prevention at the ten screening sites, ensuring that the women received the most professional guidance with care and dedication.

Among the 1,951 women screened, 346 high-risk HPV positive cases were identified, representing an 18% positivity rate. Of those, 105 women returned for colposcopy exams, and 46 underwent biopsies to await further test results.
Charity Clinic
At the charity clinic, UFH volunteers worked diligently and with great care, coming from various departments such as pediatrics, gynecology, orthopedics, ultrasound, dermatology, rehabilitation, general practice, emergency care, and pharmacy. Each volunteer was dedicated to their role, providing high-quality medical services to every patient who came seeking care.
Dr. Sun Li, Deputy Chief Physician of Rehabilitation from Beijing United Family Rehabilitation Hospital, was primarily responsible for treating neurological conditions during this mission. In Helong City, the seventh stop of the medical mission, Dr. Sun met a patient in his thirties who sought her out after noticing the “Rehabilitation Hospital” nameplate. He was experiencing lingering symptoms following a cerebrovascular accident. After reviewing his medical history and imaging films, Dr. Sun realized the patient had only undergone acupuncture and physical therapy but was unfamiliar with exercise training as part of his rehabilitation. Dr. Sun patiently explained the stroke rehabilitation process to him, carefully guiding him on how to correct his abnormal gait. She even recommended specific rehabilitation exercises from social platforms for him to follow. Before he left, Dr. Sun offered words of encouragement: “As long as you take preventive measures seriously and follow the right rehabilitation steps, you can prevent further complications, and your work and life will be unaffected.” This brief conversation not only answered the patient’s concerns but also reignited his confidence and hope for the future.
Every medical volunteer on this mission is spreading warmth, offering hope, and strengthening lives.

“This year is my sixth time participating in the charity medical mission. Every time I go deep into the rural area, the touch is extremely profound. When seeing the expectant eyes of the common people, an endless sense of responsibility surges in my heart instantly. As a doctor, participating in charity is not only about doing my best to help every patient seeking medical treatment, but also about bringing professional medical services to those places where they are most needed.”

“Giving people a ‘fish’ is not as good as teaching them how to ‘fish’. The local doctors’ cherishing and eagerness for learning opportunities impressed me deeply. The significance of the charity clinic lies not only in solving the disease problems for the local people but also in leaving behind medical knowledge and skills to benefit more people.”
Dr. Zhao Tianchong, Ultrasound Physician
