The Very First Ski Experience of ” Baseball Angel”

On December 6 2023, seventeen young Yi nationality children, new members of Power Baseball Training School, accompanied by their coach, took a bus to Nanshan Ski Resort to participate in a charity skiing experience.  The event was organized by United Foundation for China’s Health (UFCH) together with Burton Snowboards. “Can we really see snow? Can we have a snowball fight?” The children asked excitedly on the bus. They were all “at risk” children, who came from the Da Liang Mountains in Sichuan province and rarely have had a chance to see snow. Except for playing baseball, this was perhaps the happiest thing they have done since recently arriving in Beijing to join the Power Baseball training school.

UFCH has provided medical support to these baseball “angels” for more than three years., The UFCH team and United Family Healthcare (UFH) physicians have watched many big brothers and sisters at Power Baseball grow from fearful children to self-confident potential professional baseball players. This time, UFCH and Peking Studio together organized the day, for the tiny new arrivals.,  Burton Snowboards generously provided the free equipment and experience classes for these children, all under the watchful eyes of UFH doctors physical therapist to ensure proper warm up and the  children’s safety.

After arriving at the slopes, the children were like a group of happy deer, jumping about in the snow and busily rolling snowballs. Under the guidance of professional coaches, the children quickly learned how to wear snow school clothes and snowboard boots. UFCH invited Dr. Jiang Tao from the Rehabilitation Clinic of Beijing United Family Hospital to lead the children for a warm-up session to avoid injuries during exercise. Wang Haoran, a doctor from the emergency department of Beijing United Family Hospital, also guarded the children at the scene. When everything wass ready, the coach took the children to the slopes, the children spent a happy day in laughter, making great progress on the slopes.

After the exhilaration of the day,  the children fell asleep on each other’s shoulders on the bus ride home.  Though sleeping, their smiles never faded. “They are so happy today! We never thought our children would have the opportunity to experience snow sports. Thank you for giving them this rare opportunity and for your ongoing contributions of healthcare for our little ones.” Said Coach from Power Baseball said to the foundation team.

We continue to support various groups of “at-risk” children They often face a variety of survival and development pressures because of family difficulties, diseases, and other reasons. For many years, UFCH has provided medical assistance to people in need, and has brought warmth and care to children in need by working together with partner businesses and other organizations.
