Send Warmth to the Disadvantaged Children in Yushu
Yushu, located on the Tibetan Plateau, faces long and bitterly cold winters. The region’s average temperature remains low throughout the year, with harsh climatic conditions that make life challenging.
In June of this year, the United Foundation for China’s Health (UFCH) visited Yushu Prefecture to offer free HPV cervical cancer screenings and medical services to local women. During our time there, we were introduced to several Tibetan herders facing difficult circumstances, thanks to the help of our local charity partner. Through heartfelt conversations with the charity, we learned that many of these women, already struggling with illness, are also enduring severe financial hardship. With the harsh winter fast approaching, their children are in desperate need of warm clothing to protect them from the bitter cold.
In response to this urgent need, UFCH moved quickly to take action. We launched the “Keeping Children in Distress Warm in Winter – Winter Clothing Donation Event,” rallying together a network of medical and administrative volunteers with the hope of bringing warmth and comfort to children in the region facing similar struggles, helping them stay safe through the cold winter months.
The response from our volunteers was nothing short of heartwarming. Not only did they participate with great enthusiasm, but many also reached out to others, inviting them to join in this act of kindness. In less than a week, the Foundation received an outpouring of 180 pieces of winter clothing—jackets, shoes, hats, and schoolbags—many of which were of outstanding quality, and some even brand new.
These lovingly donated items were sent by UFCH to Chengduo County in Yushu Prefecture. With the support of local charity organizations, all the winter clothing was distributed to the families in need, allowing them to feel the warmth of compassion and care from afar, bringing them comfort during this difficult winter season.
